Boise City Public Schools has developed the following processes to follow when dealing with COVID-19 in the district and community:
1. All students will be screened for symptoms as they enter the school buildings or load on buses in the morning.
2. Any student who exhibits any symptoms will be isolated from others until a parent can be contacted to pick up that student. In the case of buses, a symptomatic student will return home.
3. Staff members are expected to self-monitor for symptoms and act appropriately if any symptoms exist.
4. Any staff member or student who develops symptoms once at school will be isolated until they are able to safely exit the premises.
5. If a staff member or student leaves school with symptoms and subsequently tests for COVID-19, they must either isolate for the recommended ten days or provide proof of a negative test in order to return to school before the isolation period ends.
6. The Oklahoma State Health Department (OSDH) is ultimately responsible for determining who should be isolated because of a positive test or quarantined as a result of exposure as determined by OSDH contact tracing protocols.
7. In order for staff or students to be eligible for COVID leave or absences respectively, there must be documentation provided to the district that a positive COVID-19 test occurred or a licensed health care provider or the OSDH has determined that quarantining is warranted.
8. The district is not responsible for enforcing any quarantining of employees or students except during the school day and on school property.
The district does have some regulatory safety responsibilities, but ultimately most COVID-19 containment practices come down to the personal responsibility of individuals.
Although the OSDH does possess some legally enforceable powers in a pandemic, those powers only extend to individuals that test positive.
The CDC offers the latest information related to isolation and quarantining on their website at cdc.gov .

Quarantine & Isolation

If you receive a call from the school concerning quarantining your child, rest assured that the Health Department has made that decision. It is very important to understand that only the student or students specifically asked to quarantine need to do so. The Health Department has determined who should quarantine and that does not extend to others even in the same household. As long as people continue to test positive for COVID-19, this will likely be an ongoing issue. The district must place the health of students first, but a very close second is the effective education of our students. I would urge everyone to remain calm during these times, and I want you to know that the district greatly appreciates your cooperation even if you disagree with the Health Department decisions.
The Softball Games scheduled for today against Turpin have been cancelled due to weather and field conditions. This game will not be rescheduled.
Somebody who drove through the elementary parking lot this morning has a major gas leak on their vehicle!!
For those who purchased the Wildcat Gear off of X-Grain, it has arrived, and Coach Gabriele will have it at the school if you want to stop by and pick that up. Thank you.
The Softball game against Guymon JV on Tuesday September 8 has been cancelled. In the process of trying to find a date to make that game up.
The JV Football Game Scheduled for Tuesday September 8 against Elkhart JV has been canceled. This game will not be rescheduled.
