Boise City Public Schools is seeking bonds to construct new high school classroom buildings, cafeteria, gym and FEMA safe room/shelter.
• The current main building was constructed in 1947 (76 years ago)
• All currently available wiring/breakers have been used and the wiring is extremely outdated and cannot keep up with what other schools can accomplish in meeting student educational needs
• All of the plumbing in floors and walls is original (main sewer line runs the entire length of the building from east to west). If the plumbing was to suddenly fail or collapse, we would be out of the building for possibly several months when that time comes
• The roof of the main building was not constructed properly which is causing more and more issues particularly with drainage
• The roof was resurfaced in 2015 due to hail damage ($166,839.00) and will likely have to be done again (auditorium roof cost $311,398.01 to replace in 2021)
• HVAC units are all 9 years old and out of warranty and have begun to give increasingly frequent repair issues
• There is no heat or air in the hallways
• Buildings are only slightly more energy efficient than when originally constructed
• Classrooms are small and badly out dated (electrical and technological access)
• The exterior windows on the building present a significant security risk from intruders, shooters, etc.
• Classrooms and entrances are not safe or secure for today’s students
• Restrooms are not compliant with current standards for ADA
• Included safe room would be the only one in the county (FEMA grant)
• Ag Classroom, Shops and Wildcat Pride Room will remain and still be used for the time being
• It is a $35,900,000.00 bond for 20 years
• If you paid $1,000.00 in property taxes, you can expect to pay $37.20 more per month

The Phase I & Phase II designations do not necessarily reflect the actual order in which construction will take place. It is likely that the Phase II (classrooms) will take place first followed by Phase I and the FEMA shelter construction. The final step will be the demolition of the current main high school building and the construction of the parking area shown in Phase III.
